Gig Information

Keen to play a gig but feeling nervous about getting onstage?
Already played a few shows but want to feel more comfortable and confident next time?
Not sure what order to put your songs in for your set?
Need to stall for time while your band mate tunes their guitar or fixes something, and not sure what to say or do?
Wishing there was a handy dandy list that reminded you of what bits and pieces you should bring with you to the gig?

Darkroom's free, informal, peer-run artist development sessions are back! Our last one was about how to organise & promote a gig - and this is the follow up session with a bunch of tips and tricks for actually playing a gig!

Our panel of venue staff will talk you through some tips for:
- Preparing mentally & physically for the gig. e.g. Make sure you eat! Are you wearing something comfy? Did you remember all the little bits and pieces - earplugs, your capo, the power supply for your pedals?
- Feeling comfy & confident onstage - e.g. Tips to overcome stage fright, simple techniques to connect with your audience and keep them engaged, being familiar with your gear and how it works
- Planning for the curve balls - e.g. a broken guitar string, forgetting lyrics, a moment of panic when you think everything is broken but it's probably just an old battery or guitar lead needing to quickly be swapped out.

These kinds of things happen more often than you'd think, even with big bands - we'll make you a list of the most common hiccups we see at almost every show and how to seamlessly overcome them and keep going like the absolute rockstar you are!
Whether you're brand new to performing or you're an old pro, we reckon anyone wanting to feel more comfortable and confident playing live will get something out of this session!
These events are super informal, offering a chance to learn from your peers and share experiences with others in the creative and event industries.
