Japanese vocalist Fuji Yuki will visit Aotearoa for the first time this April and invites you to share in her vocal practice with a special Sound Immersion session at Common Ground, in collaboration with Winterwood Sound Immersions.
Fuji-Yuki's 'One Butoh' is a cultural exchange between Aotearoa and Japan, with the intention of creating new artistic possibilities through the collaborative performance of her vocal techniques with Aotearoa performing artists.
Fuji-Yuki uses her voice like an instrument. With special vocal techniques, glossolalia and electronic pedals, she creates a wide variety of sounds. Inspired by the spirits of Buddhism and Shintoism, she creatively transforms her vocals into ambient soundscapes or prayers.
A sound immersion is a sonic experience designed to immerse the listener and awaken their senses. A relaxed, supportive, and safe environment is established for the attendees, which enables them to purely focus on the sounds whilst being physically comfortable. Holly and Zac then play a live sound-scape using voices, guitars, violin, crystal and Tibetan singing bowls, bells, as well as other unconventional musical instruments.
We're very excited to experience the interplay and collaboration between our respective sound worlds.
