FUJI-YUKI One Butoh
New Zealand 2025
Japanese vocalist Fuji Yuki will visit Aotearoa for the first time this April and invites you to share her movement and vocal practice in a evening performance at Vogelmorn Hall.
Fuji-Yuki's 'One Butoh' is a cultural exchange between Aotearoa and Japan, with the intention of creating new artistic possibilities through the collaborative performance of Pōneke based dancers and performing artists.
Come and join Yuki on 9th April at the Vogelmorn Hall for a collaborative live performance of voice and dance. Fuji-Yuki uses her voice like an instrument. With special vocal techniques, glossolalia and electronic pedals, she creates a wide variety of sounds. Inspired by the spirits of Buddhism and Shintoism, she creatively transforms her vocals into ambient soundscapes or prayers.
Her live performances differ from location to location, and on this occasion she will create a live soundscape featuring Gong player Erika Grant, and ambient drone and folk artists Winterwood.
