A decade after her critically acclaimed Spur album, Jay Clarkson is back with another splendid LP, Falling Through. Says Jay, “It's been a long time coming and it's very satisfying to hear it sounding so rich and full. And beautiful.”
To celebrate the release of their album, Jay Clarkson & the Containers (currently Alan Haig, Tenzin Mullin and Naz Noronha) are playing a couple of shows in the South Island (Te Waipounamu).
At Space Academy Violet French will play a set of her lovely music to open the evening.
(If you're planning to go to the official Dunedin launch on 21st March at Pearl Diver , check out another listing for details)
The album is being released by Zelle Records on March 21st 2025 on limited edition vinyl, pressed by Holiday Records in Aotearoa New Zealand.
The story of The Containers began in 2017 when Jay teamed up with Mike Dooley (Toy Love, The Enemy, Snapper, The Snares) on drums, Alan Haig (The Chills, Snapper, David Kilgour & The Heavy 8s) on keyboards, and David Glynn on bass. Their first show was a magnificent set at the first Zelle Fest at The Crown, Dunedin. In the ensuing years, concerts were played, songs written and recorded, singles released, and the lineup evolved: John White (Mëstar, Cloudboy) temporarily took over bass duties after David Glynn departed for Auckland, with Tenzin Mullin (Lars Von Trio, Heka, Suka, The David Lynch Mob) now filling the role in the current rhythm section with Naz Noronha on drums.
