Gig Information

FRIDAY 11 APRIL - Whammy Bar, Tāmaki Makaurau
SATURDAY 12 APRIL - Goblin (DJ Set), Tāmaki Makaurau
SUNDAY 13 APRIL - Space Academy, Ōtautahi

It’s wonked-out pop music, riffing on everything from Spaghetti Western soundtracks to space-age funk minimalism, with an interlude naturally paying homage to Laurie Anderson.
- Flood Magazine

Following shows all over Europe and North America, Berlin-based experimental pop artist Mary Ocher returns to Aotearoa for the first time since 2019, armed with two vastly celebrated political records released only months apart, and ready to broaden our psychic horizons with two very special shows across Tāmaki Makaurau and Ōtautahi this April.

Ocher's music is a bold confrontation of power and alienation. For those who crave music that defies convention, Mary Ocher is unmissable.

Mary has been pushing the boundaries between pop and avant-garde for almost two decades, with playful and colorful form, and clever content that winks at everyone who recognises its cultural and historical references. Her new album joins a series of apocalyptic and politically charged concept albums.

The critically acclaimed new album Your Guide To Revolution is a joyful ode to hope, released just six months after its predecessor, the edgy and experimental Approaching Singularity: Music for The End of Time. It was picked by The Quietus as Album of The Week and it joins Bandcamp's favourite records of the year.

The new recordings feature collaborations with post-rock giants Mogwai, composer Roberto Cacciapaglia, pieces by fusion harpist Dorothy Ashby and 12th century Persian poet Omar Khayyam, a homage to electronic music pioneer Delia Derbyshire and much more. Covering a vast musical landscape from leftfield pop and field recordings, to cosmic synth compositions, folk, post-punk and deconstructed techno.

Mary has toured across 40 countries to date, recorded and produced with Canadian psych guru King Khan and Hans Joachim Irmler of krautrock pioneers Faust, and feature collaborations with avant-garde legends Felix Kubin, Die Tödliche Doris and Julia Kent, among others.
