BROUGHT TO YOU BY DOUBLE VISION BREWING
7.00 PM - 8.00 PM: Weka
8.30 PM - 9.30 PM: Julia Deans
10.00 PM - 11.00 PM: Staff After Party
After exploding onto the scene as the powerful front woman for Fur Patrol, the past decade has seen Julia Deans transition from iconic rock chick to glorious songbird.
In the time between albums, Deans has delved into a long list of other musical projects, working with acts like The Adults, SJD, and Neil Finn; performed in an impressive array of art festival shows paying tribute to the likes of Jacques Brel, Joni Mitchell, and Shakespeare; and worked with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra twice – first on a show of her own songs with Anika Moa, and then in a tribute to David Bowie.
Weka is a three-piece electronica band combining unique timbres with pulsing bass and punching drums. Formed of Angus Woodhams on keys and controllers, Mitch Harty on guitar, and Cathal Lennon on drums, Weka’s instrumental electronic sound is diverse, beautiful, and thought provoking, urging audiences to dance uninhibitedly.
Staff After Party is an erratic display of live electronic music, much like the bold exports of 19th century New Zealand - steel, wool, cheese, butter and pig - each representing the raw vitality and untamed wilderness.
