Japes is back in Aotearoa for a special show at Meow, in Te Whanganui-a- Tara, for a belated celebration of their EP “Omen”, which was released last August on the Tāmaki Makaurau based label Sunreturn.
“Written in a time of turmoil, and finished in a time of healing”, The EP explores themes of heartbreak, grief, mental health, and the feelings of hope as you rise to the surface. The songs on Omen were co-produced with Bevan Smith (Introverted Dancefloor, Glass Vaults). It showcases a piece-meal approach to genre, juxtaposing treated guitars, ambient textures and deep bass to concoct a thoughtful heady blend. It was widely acclaimed, gaining a nomination for “favourite EP” at the SRN awards, and with two singles featuring on Rolling Stone’s “NZ music of the week”.
Performing with their dazzling band, they’ll be performing the tracks from Omen as well as some old favourites and surprises. It will be their only performance in Aotearoa for the foreseeable future!

Supporting Japes will be the mesmerising “Call Centre”, who are an instrumental four piece band from Te Whanganui-a-Tara that incorporate electronic and industrial soundscapes into their compositions. They released the EP “NO CASH LEFT ON PREMISES,” last year, via the independent label Strange Behaviour
