Gig Information

New Zealand’s premier sax quartet is about to deliver a symphony of sounds at St Andrew’s on the terrace at 3pm on Sunday 15th December. From swing to tango, classical to cutting edge contemporary, audiences can expect the ensemble’s usual eclectic mix of genres with even more kaleidoscopic surprises thrown into the mix, making for a toe-tapping concert to delight music lovers of all ages.

Following the success of their 30th anniversary concert last year, Saxcess – founded and lead by soprano/alto player Debbie Rawson - with Richar Marin [soprano/alto] Peter Liley [tenor] and Tim workman [baritone] - are throwing this concert to farewell Peter, whose jaw dropping improvs on a huge battered 100 year old sax have gobsmacked audiences every time. Sadly Peter is leaving the group so this will be your last chance to hear this exceptional talent firsthand. In performing some of Peter’s compositions, plus evocative music from Richar’s native Colombia, Saxcess will welcome new player Franz Ombler to the fold.

Guest artists are saxophonists Mark Cookson, Patrick Hayes and Alex Trask, and percussionists Anne Megget, Tim Donahue and former Saxcess baritone/bass player the legendary Graham Hanify who will make a cameo performance on cymbals. It all concludes with a percussive bang; a full saxophone Octet with percussion!

Expect to hear anything from a Ukrainian Christmas song to a rousing march from these musicians, who have been described as: ‘…one of NZ’s greatest exports..’ [The Post]
and as having ‘..more pull than Pavorotti!’ [The Post]
