‘Evenings Of Rhyme & Song’
In this age of online communities; the vast lonely togetherness that the Internet enables I wanted to relocate what it is I do into the most intimate of venues, the living room. Even the name is overlooked by its familiarity. It is literally the room where life happens. Where like minded souls, friends and family can congregate to share in contemplation, expressions of empathy. The thoughts that combine us rather than divide us from this human endeavor.
A mixture of poems and songs, some new, some old, perhaps even a few borrowed ones and a chance for us all to consider our shared experiences while creating a new one.
Mine are simple poems and songs but I find they are the best way to explore the biggest thoughts; thoughts of living.
“The world is kindling with beauty,” says Malcolm Guite in his entreat for us re-enchant the world by employing poetry to shake off our own disenchantment. Poetry allows us a way to wonder again at its infinite splendour.
The Tahi Bar has become a home away from home for me, and was named the Best Entertainment Venue in New Zealand by Hopitality NZ.
It will be an earlier start at 4pm and I'll be reading poems from my new book 'Bookshop Prayers' and singing songs from my back catalogue.
