O Sister - The girls let loose in gorgeous three part harmony.
A matinee event at The Lyric Theatre.
About the ensemble:
O Sister is Deb Pearson, Kiristen Crabtree and Jenny Daniell, three good friends who combine voice, guitar, bass and flute to make musical magic in 3 part harmony.
Born on a moonlight night around the campfire at Tui Farm Folk Festival. O Sister play and perform together because they love it – pure and simple. Inspired by the Wailin’ Jennys and I’m with Her, O Sister perform a mix of a cappella and accompanied songs, weaving vocal harmony and instruments together across covers and originals.
Acoustic Routes Review
“The final act of the evening was Singing Sisters (Jenny Daniell, Deb Pearson and Kirsten Crabtree). These three have lovely voices that blend well and a good ear for selecting material that suits their harmony singing. Their 12 song set drew from a diverse range of influences including ; Māoritanga, Kiwiana, Americana , Appalachian Mountain Music , Contemporary New Zealand folk, Indie Folk and Pop. In addition to being strong singers who clearly enjoy performing together they play a range of instruments including, guitar ukulele, electric bass and both wooden and concert flute, the latter being used to good effect in Deb and Kirsten’s flute duet break on Falling Slowly (Hansard & Irglova). Their arrangements were generally spare and considered ensuring their voices were always to the fore.”
