Strange News presents one very special Tāmaki Makaurau show for Taite Music Prize finalist Tom Lark before he crosses the dateline to conquer the UK. Thursday 9 May, join Tom Lark (aka Shannon Fowler) and his airtight power trio as they bring to life the “sunburnt psychedelic folk” anthems from celebrated recent album Brave Star, plus a few old classics, new songs – one of which will be hitting the airwaves soon! – and surprises.
Having been invited to perform at the iconic Great Escape Festival after impressing its booker with a particularly stellar performance at Going Global last year, Tom Lark and his likely lads will play a string of UK dates across May. Rounding out this intrepid trio will be multi-instrumentalist James McDonald (Beachware), and drummer James Dansey (Thee Golden Geese), with both providing the kinds of backing vocal harmonies that’d make the angels blush.
As it turns out, getting three grown men across to the other side of the world doesn’t come cheap! So, come on down to the Wine Cellar, shake a leg, and maybe even throw down some coin on some snazzy Tom Lark merchandise!
Joining the party for this intimate one-off spectacular is singer-songwriter and all-round champion of the people Paul Cathro, whose mastery of melody must be heard to be believed.
