Gig Information

Studio 1 Vintage Guitars are over the moon to announce our first in store performance. Now that we are comfortable in our new Victoria Park Market showroom, we figured it was the perfect time to throw the doors open on a Thursday evening and invite one of NZ’s best to shake the dust off the rafters.

So it is with great excitement that we announce a performance by none other than Adam McGrath - the lead singer and songwriter of long serving Lyttelton institution, The Eastern.

A folk singer in the truest sense, Adam writes from the heart and plays for the people. His well worn tales are of and for the everyman and after making his living as a travelling musician for as long as he cares to remember, you can be sure his songbook is full of the honest goods.

He is renowned for his at once ferocious and tender performances that incorporate songs, yarns and low rent bar philosophy for anyone that will spring for a ticket. A McGrath show goes straight for the spirit level in all of us, looking deep for the good parts and hoping to reach all the thoughtful bits that matter. He has shared stages with and opened for Fleetwood Mac, Steve Earle, Old Crow Medicine Show, Paul Kelly, Jimmy Barnes and many more.

The Eastern has proved to be somewhat of a folk music incubator, with the likes of Marlon Williams, Reb Fountain, Aldous Harding and Tami Neilson (to name but a few) all having stints in the group over the last 20 years. With this it could be said that Adam has ushered in the careers of some of NZ’s most beloved singer/songwriters. His song Hope and Wire was the inspiration behind Gaylene Preston’s TV series of the same name and he is known for his service orientated approach to music in the years since. As well as this his community work in post quake ravaged Christchurch will always be remembered as compassionate and heartwarming.

He’s been described as a “National Treasure” by RNZ and Barry Saunders of The Warratahs eloquently calls him “The Truth”. Don’t miss out on your chance to see Adam McGrath break the proverbial bottle of champagne on the hull of Studio 1 Vintage Guitars. Limited to 40 tickets only, available online at www.undertheradar.co.nz
