Isabella Rovo and Camerata Caipira in Aoteroa
Brazilian group returns to New Zealand!
Known for their celebrated 2013 performance at WOMAD, Camerata Caipira returns to play at the CubaDupa Festival and embark on a mini tour across the North Island. Showcasing the unique viola caipira (traditional ten-steel-string guitar), cavaquinho (the ukulele’s cousin), and acoustic 7-string guitars alongside rich percussion, the five-piece folk group fuses traditional rhythms with contemporary arrangements of strings, vocals, and earthy rhythms to celebrate the diversity of Brazilian music.
Fronted by Isabella Rovo, who lived in Wellington for 2 years and led music groups and events during her busy stay, Camerata Caipira has released two albums, including a kid’s title focusing on Brazilian fauna to promote awareness about endangered species. Their shows will feature local Brazilian and Brazilian-music-lover-Kiwi artists, celebrating the collaborative and welcoming spirit of the group for an experience that promises to transport you to the heart of Brazil.
Camerata Caipira: Isabella Rovo, Victor Batista, Nelson Latif, Sandro Alves and Edson Arcanjo. The artists are supported by the cultural exchange notice from the Brazilian Ministry of Culture and the Circula Goiás notice from the Federal Law Paulo Gustavo.
