Sometimes called the South Pacific’s answer to Matisse’s chapel at Vence, the chapel at Island Bay’s Home of Compassion glows with the light from the stained glass created by John Drawbridge.
This great Aotearoa artist lived most of his life by the sea in Island Bay opposite Tapu Te Ranga Island and so Ian Logan – the pianist for this show – feels a special connection as he grew up as a neighbour and with John Drawbridge’s work as an inspiration for his own artistic path.
Together with Alistair McLeod on bass and guitar he has created a collection of original compositions and jazz standards that seek to reflect the colours, radiance and peace to be found here.
