UTR Presents
100% GOOD & Undertheradar are thrilled to announce Mermaidens will be taking their brand new self-titled album on the road this summer, and you’re all invited. The four-date tour includes shows at Dunedin’s Dive, Christchurch’s Space Academy, the iconic Hollywood Avondale in Auckland (with special guests Earth Tongue), and in their hometown of Wellington for a gig at San Fran.
Lead single “I like to be alone” set an uplifting scene for Mermaidens’ return, and signified a bold new era. To date, the song has spent three weeks atop the Student Radio Network's Top 10 and inspired double denim lovers far and wide with its accompanying video. Follow up single ‘Sister’ is following closely in its footsteps, and comes with a characteristically playful music video, directed by Sports Team. These singles are just a taste of what fans can expect from the full length album, which is out on 3rd November, 2023.
Produced by The Phoenix Foundation’s Samuel Flynn Scott, the upcoming self-titled album showcases a theme of internal monologues woven throughout its entirety. Guitarist/singer Gussie Larkin reflects on this, stating, I can hear my voice reasoning with myself throughout the record, and often in the third person. A **carefully curated collection, with two distinct sides, Side A boasts bold, loud, and propulsive songs that are driven by big guitar tones and pop-leaning hooks. Side B is for the leftfield songs, the synth driven and sparkly sound explorations which listeners can look forward to hearing when the album is released.
The enduring lineup of Gussie Larkin (guitar/vocals), Lily West (bass/vocals), and Abe Hollingsworth (drums) will be enhanced by the addition of Louisa Nicklin on guitar and vocals in Auckland and Wellington. Louisa currently plays in the live bands for Dimmer and D.C. Maxwell and is working towards her second solo album, in collaboration with Shayne Carter. Another reason not to miss this excellent live band on tour this November/December throughout Aotearoa!
