Internationally acclaimed indie folk artist Graeme James is back on the road to celebrate 10 year anniversary of the release “Play one we all know!” His first covers album was released in 2013, one year after jumping in the deep end and deciding to become a full time busker on the streets of New Zealand. Then as now, his dynamic live shows features live looped electric violin, guitar, banjo, bass, piano, baritone ukulele, mandolin, accordion, harmonica, brass, drums & percussion.
‘Play one we all know’ found it’s origin in the wild street parties, spontaneous jams and serendipitous moments of his first year as a full time musician. One of those serendipitous moments involved a chat with a travelling Street Magician from Boulder, Colorado who encouraged him to put together an album of the cover songs that people were so obviously enjoying.
In a unique take on crowd funding - the album’s recording sessions were financed entirely by the generosity of the crowds of people who would form to watch him busking around New Zealand. Having sold a few thousand of copies on the streets, the album the went on to rack up over 20 million streams on Spotify and helped propel him forth into a successful musical career.
It was followed by ‘Play One We All Vol. II’ and his debut original album, News from Nowhere’ which led to a record deal with major Indie label Nettwerk Music Group. Having recently returned to New Zealand after years of touring Europe and North America, James is bringing his signature foot stomping folk to a town near you this winter.
Having sold out shows across world, gained the attention of publications like Rolling Stone, and gathered over 50 million streams, Graeme James is one of the most successful NZ indie artists in his genre today. With three original albums and four EPs under his belt Graeme will be releasing the much anticipated ‘Play one we all know Vol. III while on this tour.
Featuring music from the last 10 years, join him for a fun and nostalgic evening to celebrate where it all began, and to take a glimpse into the future.
