Featuring Flying Nun alumni (from The Subliminals, avoid!avoid, among others), new provisional assemblage Vor-stellen release their debut album, Parallelograms, (courtesy of Flying Nun) and it's a double LP!
Vor-stellen (Steve Reay, Brendan Moran and Jared Johanson) is an experimental group that blends fixated guitars and drums with looped ad-hoc electronic layers producing perforated waves of uncanny, vanishing sound which echoes off the fourth wall. Vor-stellen set forth on an exploration, folding the weird and the eerie into a dark ecology of long-sound via indefatigable environments of modulation and improvisation, creating sonic counterpoints that hinge on a reanimation of musical gestures.
The night will feature special guest appearances by Ducklingmonster and Guardian Singles.
Ducklingmonster is an audio-visual artist from Tāmaki Makaurau. She was a co-founder of noiseniks The Futrurians and the collective Uniform. Via broken electronics, she explores sonic disruption and gets back to the surface of things. In her live performances, there's girl group melodrama and haunted beats.
Chris Cudby of UTR says it like this...Distorted mirrorball-decorated keys take a life of their own on the new collection, marching in robotic rhythm with mutagenic DIY electronic pulses, caveperson-in-the-future doofing tekno beats, and deeply echoed witch-in-the-club vox.
After recently zooming around the Country in support of their own album, the brilliant Feed me to the Doves, Guardian Singles return to unpack the insanity with their swirling cyclone of personal raw nerves and urgently-paced breathless hooks which address a collective spiritual chaos and permeates it into the firmament.
Quick smart and cranked up, this formidable collection of humans is not to be missed.
