After a year of going it alone, swaggering showman Hemi Hemingway has reunited with his band The Snowflakes to hit six spots around wintry Aotearoa this June & July. With recent accolades including supporting Kurt Vile at newly reopened St. James Theatre in Wellington, and Night Beats in Stockholm, Sweden, a chance to see Hemingway backed by his Snowflakes is one not to be missed.
This run of shows is extra special in that it includes Hemingway’s first shows in both Tāmaki Makaurau and Whanganui, as well as his first trip down south to Ōhinehou and Ōtepoti.

With the rock’n’roll panache of a dive bar matador and the emotional force of a knife in the guts, Hemi Hemingway makes music that thrills, spills and breaks hearts. The effortlessly slick New Zealand star has a connoisseur’s ear for the finest parts of musical history, sweeping 60s rock, 50s sheen and 80s romanticism into the present day, refurbishing and refashioning them into something new and fresh. At home in the spotlight, he’s a showman in the best troubadour traditions, but one with real depth, showcasing swagger and vulnerability in equal measure.
“The debut EP [The Lonely Hunter] from this New Zealand-born, London-based artist (aka Shaun Blackwell) is a solid six-song set offering a modern, noirish take on ‘60s girl-group pop and related styles, combining atmospheric guitars and keyboards and occasional sax with his lilting croon and wistful melodies” - Don Yates, KEXP New Music Reviews
“It’s sort of got that sound though… that kind of ‘60s [sound]. You can almost see the slick back hair and the lone musician on stage, and someone’s crying into their beer in a cigarette-laden bar somewhere” - Kathryn Ryan, RNZ Nine to Noon
