Rita Mae - Superfeeling EP Release Show
Rita Mae releases her Superfeeling EP on 5 May and celebrates with an EP release party on May 5, with support from Crystal Chen.
Rita Mae sold out her Night Drive single release show at Whammy’s Back Room in February and the Muriwai artist has been turning heads all over the past few months with her singles and live shows.
The Superfeeling EP collects songs dating back to her first release, The Secret’s Out, through to new tracks Real Love, which drops as a single on April 21, and Someday.
It also includes that lovesick showstopper, Night Drive, the anthemic Candy’s House and her skinnyandsoft collab Sunny Afternoon.
Recent weeks have seen her on tour around Aotearoa supporting Gin Wigmore and she is opening for Broods at the end of this month.
The daughter of local legend, the late Jim Laing (The Jean Paul Sartre Experience, Lanky), the 24 year-old had a crack at a career in neuroscience before acknowledging a relentless desire for escapism could be satiated by simply surrendering to it – and letting her insides spill out through songwriting and performance.
Rita developed her own writing style, allying a unique feel for melody to her emotional lyricism. She littered songs across Soundcloud and played too many open mic nights to remember through her late teens.
After a stint in Dunedin collecting that degree in neuroscience, she returned to Auckland to immerse herself in learning music production, searching for her sound in the all-encompassing genre of contemporary indie pop.
Rita Mae delivers a blend of genres and feeling, emotional lyrics combined with alternative pop production, that will have you feeling everything all at once. For real.
