As Summer draws to a close we thought we would honour two of the great men of NZ music with a special Sunday Session.Phil Bell took up the name DJ Sir-Vere over 20 years ago, though he’s never been just a turntablist. His extraordinary career has included roles as varied as gig promoter, magazine editor, television presenter, blogger, podcaster and radio station programme director.
At every step, he’s pushed the NZ hip hop scene forward, and, very appropriately, in 2018, Phil was named an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to music.
In 2021, with Martyn Pepperell, Phil created the ongoing Aotearoa Hip Hop podcast, described as a deep dive into Aotearoa's hip hop history. It was awarded Gold in the Best Arts and Culture category in the NZ Podcast Awards 2022. Mikey Havoc first entered the public consciousness as one of our finest ever front men from his days with Push Push. Owner of one of NZs finest ever band venues/bars in Squid. TV star for a decade and more both with Newsboy and by himself. One of NZs gold standard Broadcasters from his years and years of hosting BFMs breakfast show and the man who changed Radio Hauraki from a Station that was stuck in the 70s (with none of the good stuff) to the force it is now. Through his whole life Mikey has been an obsessive music Collector and DJ covering all genres but it was House Music where he really excelled. His days as Resident at such Institutions as Calibre, Wyndham Bowling Club and Squid were defining for House Music in New Zealand.. Its The Yottys absolute honour to have the man himself performing for our Sunday Session March 19th inside from 10 pm-1am with ass istance from Aaron Pony.
