Join South For Winter for their debut show in Wellington, presented by Acoustic Routes concert series.
Acoustic Routes is a club based in Wellington for people who enjoy performing and listening to a wide range of music with the emphasis on acoustic styles. We are an acoustic music club, supporting music in and around the city. Listen to great music, perform, get noticed or as a young musician get supported. We have regular concerts that feature a wide range of New Zealand and overseas performers, like WAI.TAI in the picture.
With a blend of dreamy acoustic duets, bluesy murder ballads and foot-stomping Folk, New Zealand-born and Nashville-based South for Winter’s sound is as eclectic as their origins. The band began with a chance meeting between kiwi Nick Stone and Colorado native Dani Cichon in the mountains of Peru, South America; however, it was years before the two were able to bring the project to life in Christchurch NZ. South for Winter later took flight in Nashville TN, where the two songwriters and multi-instrumentalists combined elements such as acoustic guitar, mandolin, electric guitar, and suitcase stomp into a genre-bending sound described by American Songwriter as “laden with delicate harmonies, intricate guitar-work and earthy vocals...impeccable sound”.
South for Winter recorded their debut album Luxumbra with GRAMMY award-winning producer Matt Leigh in Nashville TN and successfully crowdfunded its independent release in 2020. The album has been praised by sites such as For the Love of Bands (a wonderful mix of indie and folk rock), Grateful Web (eclectic in the best sense of the word), AmericanaUK (a journey well-worth taking), 13th Floor NZ, Music.Net.NZ, Relix Magazine, and DittyTV. Luxumbra’s release, coupled with the band's head-turning live performance, has landed them accolades such as an Official Artist at SXSW Music Festival in 2023, Official Showcase Artist at Folk Alliance International in 2022, DJ Pick in 2021 by New York City's John Platt of WFUV Radio, Official Showcase Artist at Folk Alliances Southwest and Midwest Regional in 2021, “Most Wanted” Emerging Artist at Falcon Ridge Festival in 2019, and rising artist by Nashville's Lightning 100 Radio in 2018.
Between tours nationally and internationally, South for Winter are in the studio in Nashville for their sophomore album, with producer Matt Leigh once again at the project's helm. The first album single, Something in the Stars, is due March 9, 2023.
