“Gentle, sometimes witty and just as often moving reflections at every turn” – Graham Reid
National treasure Bill Lake performs a rare concert in Paekākāriki accompanied by bassist Steve Hemmens.
A renowned guitarist, singer and songwriter, Bill is one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s most respected and long-serving practitioners. He led the iconic country-blues band The Windy City Strugglers with the late Rick Bryant for four decades, pioneering rock group Mammal in the 70s, and brassy funk-rockers The Pelicans in the 80s. The late 80s produced Bill Lake and The Living Daylights followed in the 90s and 2000s by acclaimed solo albums.
Bill's songs have been covered by Midge Marsden, Darren Watson, Kokomo, The Rag Poets, and Marg Layton.
Bassist Steve Hemmens played with Bill in Mammal. Recently returned home from many years in the UK, he adds warmth and swing to the mix.
