Prepare to fall in love with emerging alt-indie artist Goodnight My Darling (Maxine Macaulay), beginning with her ethereal wonder self-titled debut album.
The Te Whanganui-a-Tara songwriter, producer and vocalist, is showcasing immense growth in her sound. She has moved away from her previously released electronic music into glittery, hypnotic, shoegaze, indie-alt-band joy. Think French for Rabbits, Nadia Reid, Aldous Harding and Angel Olsen. The album is introspective, soothing and an absolute triumph for the up-and-coming artist, who draws on her adventures living and performing abroad in Melbourne, Japan and most recently Berlin.
With the exception of the drums and cello being recorded at The Surgery in Wellington, ‘Goodnight My Darling’ the album was recorded & mixed by Toby Lloyd at Tiny Triumph Recordings, then mastered by Robin Schmidt @ 24-96 Mastering in Berlin. Goodnight My Darling’s band includes Ingrid Saker (Lead Guitar), Kim Andrews (drums), Connor Taumoepeau (synths) & Mitch Kirk (bass). The ever-evolving sound project Ludus constantly explores new realms of electronic music. Whanganui-based, Ludus has toured and played throughout Aotearoa by way of DJ and live performances.
Always finding ways to bridge the gap between dance music and ethereal sound art, she's performed alongside other sonic artists at City Gallery Wellington, Te Kōkī, and Hannah Playhouse, opening for acts such as techno legend Kevin Saunderson.
Her debut album Two of the Same was released in 2021 off the back of a range of releases on compilations by label Strange Behaviour.
