Dive into The Dowse in this after-hours exploration of our latest shows. In celebration of New Zealand Music Month, we’ll be pumping up the volume and passing the mic.
Sing your heart out in a karaoke contest hosted by artist Suzanne Tamaki (Māori Moving Image ki Te Awakairangi); Enjoy a drink while DJ Jamie Berry (Māori Moving Image ki Te Awakairangi) mixes up some home-grown beats; and seek a little guidance from Samuel Te Kani who will be giving tarot readings upstairs in Mark Schroder: Fortune Teller (No. 2) (Branch Office).
Stray into our galleries to discover a suite of new exhibitions including a major commission by Fiona Pardington: te whitinga o te pō; The Truth Is Out There – an exhibition of artists dealing with alien abduction as subject matter; immersive animation and soundscape in My River Goes With Me; all-encompassing optical experience in Janna van Hasselt: Chromaflage; comedic and absurd exploration of floppy forms in Droop; and Māori Moving Image ki Te Awakairangi, featuring five new moving image works set to classic Māori songs which tautoko the musicians’ advocacy for te reo and mātauranga Māori.
