A unique experience combining the world of contemporary jazz with the musical cultures of India, Persia, Arabia, and Latin America. A mix of original compositions and well-known tunes from other ethno-jazz artists.
Led by Tauranga-bred jazz musician Akash Dutta, the Akash Dutta Quartet is the pianist's latest ensemble combining young talent from Wellington and the Bay of Plenty. Having completed a Bmus (Hons) in jazz performance from the New Zealand School of Music, Akash has taken his passion for musical fusion by combining aspects of contemporary jazz with the music of his native India, along with influences from Afro-Cuban and Middle Eastern music cultures. Akash and his band will be performing a selection of originals from his 2021 studio album Ethnographica alongside other fusion jazz pieces from jazz greats such as Avishai Cohen, Chick Corea, and Brad Mehldau.
