Home Alone Music is proud to present 'The light you throw' – the third album from Te Whanganui-a-Tara based electricUTOPIA songwriter Lake South. Slated for release on September 17, the album was written in the midst of Aotearoa's Level-4 lockdown and recorded at a rented house in Waikawa beach.
From the anxiety of the pandemic comes a record full of hope, joy and defiance. Expertly crafted odes to friends, the cities they live in, and the futures they strive for.
These are songs to be experienced live and Lake South has the band to make them pop. Theo Sekeris (Ras Judah, Rubita) is on bass, Eddie Crawshaw (Sheep Dog & Wolf, Bonaparte) hits rhythm, and Penelope Esplin (French for Rabbits, Grawlixes) adds beatific harmonies and synths.
This collection follows 2017's 'If You're Born On An Island the Ocean Heals You' and the follow-up, 'Wellington | Te Upoko O Te Ika', in late 2019. Both records have been critically acclaimed with Graham Reid calling Lake an electro-folk postcard poet of his doubting generation.
Joining Lake South for the majority of the shows is the new project from Miles Sutton: Welcomer. Sutton has toured internationally with Lontalius and Prizegiving, performing at festivals such as CMJ in New York City and Laneway and opening for international acts such as Death Cab for Cutie, Perfume Genius and Frankie Cosmos.
