Aotearoa/New Zealand instrumental producer Kraus is back with a new album A Golden Brain, a scorching hot firecracker that sets the controls for the heart of somewhere between the outer limits and the Bermuda Triangle.
I have never heard one dunger from Kraus, and here, his space-fried freakbeat micro-ragas are as hypnotic and alluring as ever. A Golden Brain is instantly hooky and familiar but radically singular and blazingly new.
These pieces burn deep into your psyche and will hum and melt inside your head like a fever dream while you sleep. Kraus majestically brings together synths, guitar, bass, tape loops, sampler and percussion with a kind of alchemical juju.
