Susie Says! Presents
Estère
with Nikki Ngatai
Ostend Hall
Saturday 8 December
Doors at 8:00pm

Internationally celebrated musician Estère will appear at Ostend War Memorial Hall on Saturday the 8th of December, her one show on Waiheke. Bringing her unique blend of melody, rhythm, samples and loops, Estère will be traveling to the island fresh from a European tour - the second this year - this time focused in France. Referencing the meaty side of electronic music with thick bass atop weighty drums, contrasting it with organic acoustic textures, Estère bedecks her production with a rich elastic voice and punchy, ethereal melodies. Estère calls her style of music Electric Blue Witch Hop, defying genre, seamlessly blending together soul and indie, hip hop and jazz, her musical layers shuffling between pop melody and African beats. Estère was fittingly called on to open for Grace Jones, John Cale and Erykah Badu, holding her own and impressing audiences across seemingly disparate sounds.

Estère has performed at festivals across the globe, a sampling of which were Glastonbury (UK), Bushfire Festival (Manzini, Swaziland), Botanique (Brussels), Sori International Music Festival (Jeonju South Korea), Aarhus International Festival (Denmark), closer to home WOMAD, Rhythm & Vines. She has also headlined shows in and amongst her international tours, as well as collaborating with an impressive assortments of artists (Jon Toogood, Oddissee (Washington, DC), Raiza Biza) and requests for live performance vocal cameos (Bic Runga).

Accompanying Estère on stage will be her all-female band, and she will be supported by local legend Nikki Ngatai, who may or may not be wielding her roller skates, but will most definitely be impressing punters with her gorgeous vocals, guitar and loops.

My Design On Other's Lives is “...a unique collection of genres, sounds and ideas and is something unlike anything I've heard out of New Zealand - or anywhere, for that matter. It is singularly Estère, and a treat to explore.” - New Zealand Herald, 18 May, 2018
