Aotearoa Audio Arts, the first festival of its kind in New Zealand, encompasses live performances, showings of audiovisual works and sound art installations across genres from kinetic, mechanical, and robotic art, to glitch, noise, experimental acoustic and electronic music.
International artists include Nicolas Bernier (Canada), an audiovisual artist who works with physical material in combination with digital mediums, Richard Chartier, a Los Angeles based artist considered one of the key figures in minimalist sound art, Myriam Bleau (Canada), Ted Apel (US), and Anne La Berge (US/ Netherlands). New Zealand artists presenting at the festival are Rob Thorne (Ngāti Tumutumu), Grayson Cooke, Bridget Johnson, Blake Johnston, Jim Murphy, Flo Wilson, Mo Zareei and Dugal McKinnon.
Presented by the New Zealand School of Music - Te Kōki at Victoria University of Wellington, the two-day festival includes evening concerts at City Gallery Adam Auditorium on Friday 28 and Saturday 29 September and a three-day exhibition of sound and audiovisual art at Potocki Paterson Gallery.
