The Electricka Zoo are one of Wellington’s most intriguing bands – a duo of live electronica by the Digitator, and Featherston local Dave Black on bass and electric guitar.
We combine diverse influences - from EDM to postpunk avant-garde rock, jazz, reggae, Balkan, Asian and Portuguese music - into our own homegrown NZ sound.
As part of the New Zealand Fringe Festival - 3 weeks of artistic innovation and organised chaos in the Wellington region from 2-24 March – we’re playing in Featherston.
Hosting the show is escVelocity - the creative hub on Fox Street, with café, shop, gallery, and makerspace - bringing art and music to, and nurturing creativity in the Wairarapa.
The Featherston performance is koha entry, to eliminate cost as a barrier to attendance.
Each of the Electricka Zoo’s original tunes is our take on a different genre. Each is designed to challenge us and develop our musicianship, while allowing flexibility to improvise within a structure, and also creating a distinctly New Zealand fusion. We are thus able to bring a fresh and creative approach to everything we attempt.
For this show we will be introducing live video imagery that responds in real time to the sound.
Our 2017 debut album is available from Bandcamp, Spotify, Google Play Store, iTunes etc.
“a totally original, mind warping album… I salute anyone that makes a whole album out of EDM post-punk avant-garde rock / jazz, reggae, Balkan, Portuguese music.” – music.net.nz
