girlboss will hit Meow for the Wellington release party for its debut EP Body Con: a small run of cassettes through Ball of Wax.
Lucy Botting wanted girlboss to be her project. The music was drawn up from the mists of reality television shows, childhood movies, and mixtape tremolo. It had a confidence that was also soft, centred around Lucy’s vision. She put together a live band with Darian Woods (from their previous project, Wet Wings), Douglas Kelly and Olivia Campion (Yumi Zouma, Estère).
Early comments from the studio engineer are that he’s “really digging where it is,” with Olivia’s focused drumming, Darian’s ornamental guitar lines, and Douglas’s bass “defined with string noise” supporting Lucy’s voice, which has “unusual harmonics.”
girlboss is now well and truly a band more than a solo project.
girlboss will be joined by label mates Zero Cool and the very cool Farewell Spit. Late night dancing with DJ Whom Him.
