Long Beach native Vince Staples has announced his hotly anticipated return to our shores this January for two huge headline dates.
The critically acclaimed rapper brings with him the momentum of his stellar sophomore album, Big Fish Theory, to Wellington’s San Fran on January 12 and Auckland’s Powerstation on January 13.
THE POWERSTATION, AUCKLAND - SATURDAY JANUARY 13 (ALL AGES)
Tickets for both shows go on sale at midday September 28, with a Spark pre-sale running from 10am Tuesday September 26 until 10am Thursday September 28.
After making his debut appearance on Earl Sweatshirt’s first record, Staples went to work on his own material eventually producing four acclaimed mixtapes. With his first album, Summer ’06 now firmly under his belt, the progressive hip-hop extraordinaire returned harder than ever with his eagerly anticipated 2017 album, Big Fish Theory. A slew of top-tier artists feature on the record including Kendrick Lamar, Ty Dollar Sign and A$AP Rocky.
From start to finish, Staples pulls together the world of dance and electronic to produce a politically charged soundboard of angst, dystopian and passion. The production is experimental and hard-hitting, packed with energy that is only overshadowed by his versatility as an emcee. The seasoned artist is respected as one of the most captivating voices in modern day hip-hop and the love he receives in New Zealand testifies to his longevity as one of the greats.
This is an opportunity to catch a hip-hop virtuoso live and in person this summer.
