At the age of 17, Ryan Bingham started writing songs to escape his troubled Texan home life. These days, Bingham is working on his fifth studio album in California and has a mantel of awards including an Oscar, Golden Globe and Grammy for his song “The Weary Kind” from the acclaimed film Crazy Heart. In 2010, he was named The Americana Music Association's Artist Of The Year.
His fourth studio album Tomorrowland was recorded in a friend's makeshift studio in an empty Malibu house that previously belonged to Kris Kristofferson. This album was released through his own label Axster Bingham Records and says “Doing this label and the new music on our own led me back to writing songs that sustain me. It’s a whole new adventure for me”. Bingham also wrote and recorded the theme song to the drama series The Bridge called “Until I’m One With You”.
SPECIAL GUEST EBONY LAMB
Ebony Lamb is a singer and songwriter, well-known for her work as lead singer of Eb & Sparrow. Her impressionistic lyrics are imbued with a simple strength that comes from both heart and heartache. Her voice is unique - a cross between Cat Power and Gillian Welch and seems to resurrect an old-time soul into the here and now.
“Another impressive act new to me was Miss Ebony Lamb from Wellington who opened for Delaney (Davidson) and Marlon (Williams) at Aratoi. A singer-songwriter in the Gillian Welch mould, she presented an impressive original set.” Karl du Fresne - Freelance Journalist, Thursday 30th August 2012.
