Reunited for one night only at Tāmaki Makaurau's The Others Way festival this Saturday, the long-lost self-titled debut album from Las Tetas finally comes out today! It has been hinted there is quite a crazy story surrounding why it has taken more than a decade to be released, you'll have to head along and quiz the legendary trio of Charlotte Gallichan-Stewart (Horror in Clay), Kristal G (Heart Attack Alley) and Lucy Emanuel (The Glass Picture) directly about it.
Sadly no longer playing at this Saturday's The Others Way festival, Romi Wrights' new soul anthem 'Capsized' is a worthy follow up to 2023's already classic double A-side 'Bring It Back / Without You'. Out today via Mānuka Recordings, the song features a legion of local instrumental and backing vocal greats, produced and composed by Kenny Sterling.
Drummer and guitarist with Aotearoa rock royalty / family band Crowded House, Elroy (Finn) reemerges with the beguiling and playful dream / electro-pop of 'The Other' — his first official new tune since 2021's low key standout debut album.
2024 Best Independent Debut award winner Jujulipps today unleashed her avidly awaited second EP SUPERSTAR — produced by LIVE MUSIC BAR guest star WHO SHOT SCOTT and out with an eye-popping video for lead track 'NIGHTSHIFT'. "It’s such a common story for creatives juggling this world of capitalism while simply wanting to create. I’m just grateful I was able to put that in my music, and I hope others can learn and relate to that all-too-common story".
Pōneke digital pop star missrosevalentina unleashed The Fuchsia is Rose late last week, the artist's club-pumping first official debut album since waving goodbye to her old project Hybrid Rose — a generous nine tunes to move body and mind, featuring special guests L.I.L.L.I, DATBRY and Jason Parker. "This project is a culmination of my evolution as an artist. It's a neo-futuristic dance pop record, based in 4024, mostly inspired by SOPHIE's work, wrapped up and sent in from space as "a message from the future".
Whanganui synth-punk upstart XRVR dropped his whiplash second single of 2024 'F4F.' — a heavily distorted one finger salute to holiday family get-togethers, even namedropping today's Thanksgiving Day celebrations in the US. "Video soon".
Unleashed last weekend, Lobotomy is the perfectly named first new release from Tāmaki Makaurau's NOXO since 2019's Lizard. The world applauds six wildly uncategorisable "tunes" to completely munt your mind and mash your ears. "MAKE NOISE.FUCK RULES.FREE PALESTINE".
Playing a release show tonight at Neck Of The Woods (get tickets HERE), Tāmaki Makaurau deathgrind hellraisers RVKKVS' debut album Antithesis Of Prosperity is a relentlessly aggro, face-melting nine track onslaught that will leave your ears cowering in the corner in under twenty minutes — ie. sounding great! Go see them.
ABG is / was the solo electronic project of Josh Finegan, who waves goodbye to that moniker with grand finale EP Home is a state of mind — sporting cover art by Tasha Tziakis and out in full on 18th December via the always impeccable Bankrupt Records. Move your body to excellently titled hyperkinetic lead cut 'musicmusicmusic'.
dān dān is the new solo project of Chinese-Pākehā pop songwriter Danielle Hao-Aickin, one half of Tāmaki Makaurau sibling duo Ersha Island 二沙岛. Cooked up in collaboration with ASHY and Huiming Wu (花溪 Flowerstream) at BIG FAN’s Fan Camp: Pan-Asian, 'pressure cooker' is a soaring ballad that "reflects on the significance of her upbringing in intense classical piano training and how it demanded an environment of tension".
Spring Board: The Early Unrecorded Songs is a forthcoming release commemorating the departure from our earthly plane of Dunedin / Ōtepoti true legend Martin Phillipps, leader of The Chills. "A dedicated reimagining of his earlier unreleased songs that became his artistic farewell, a lasting legacy, and a reminder of his huge, underappreciated talent." Out on double vinyl LP on 28th February, the new collection was completed with contributions from Julia Deans, Elroy Finn and Split Enz (!), Neil Finn, Tiny Ruins’ Hollie Fullbrook, Greg Haver, Troy Kingi, Shona Laing, Tami Neilson, Dianne Swann and Clementine Valentine. Listen up to bittersweet first single 'If This World Was Made For Me'.
