Jude Kelly Goblin Friday 13th December
On the new EP Jude says “Record is important and an introduction to me as an artist and a person, every song is a different woman - every song embodies a different character. There is a song for love, a song for feeling sexy, a song for the yearning, a song breaking down the patriarchal walls that bind us. I hope people see in these songs the multiplicity of life.”
“I want you to come with a curious heart and be open - feel the bad - feel the good. It will be, like life, provocative - sensual - vulgar. This is emotive music - and getting back to performing live is how I feel most comfortable. It’s been a year since I last performed live, and two years since I began this journey of writing the record. I can’t wait to share it with you all - and there are dj’s after so we can just shake it off if need”
Never being defined by her circumstances, Jude was the youngest of 5 kids, raised by two pastors in Dunedin, New Zealand. Always independent, Jude spent her childhood as a nationally renowned speed skater, aerobic national champion, and dancer. Jude moved out of her parent’s home at 15 years old and put herself through university where she earned a degree in oceanography. Judah experienced a lifetime of love, loss, growth, accomplishment and resilience all before the age of 20. Through it all, she was writing songs.
What started as writing and producing songs with her brother, transformed into a cinematic, gripping and refined sound that makes Jude’s music stand out. Jude Kelly’s sonic world is founded on soul pop littered with western/Americana and folk elements. It is driven by emotive vocals and poetic lyricism. With influences from Patti Smith, Hayley Williams, Florence and the Machine, Prince, Blondie, Cher, Miley Cyrus and Shania Twain, Jude’s music is a refreshing take on timeless songwriting.
