Back by popular demand! The Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra (WIUO) are excited to announce our 2010 Winter Ukulele Workshop Season. Bigger and bolder than ever before and arriving just at the right time to warm your winter chills, the WUWs are here to help you take your ukulele playing to the next level!
This year for the first time we have an Intermediate Workshop Series (as well as our ever-popular Beginner Workshop).
BEGINNER WORKSHOP SERIES:
Again this year we will be running our popular five-week beginner workshop series.
In the beginner series members of the WIUO will impart to you the wisdoms of the cute, but mystical, 4-stringed instrument, and will furnish you with some their well strummed tricks and secrets to help you on your way to becoming an all-star ukulele player!
It may be that your goal is simply learn how to make those darned fingers contort into some basic chord shapes and hold a tune that doesn’t scare the cat. Well, this is the workshop for you.
Or it may be that you played ukulele a long, long time ago (we won’t make you tell us how long ago…or will we'), and need a ukulele refresher - this also is the workshop for you!
To take part in the beginner workshop
series you dont need any prior ukulele or musical experience – it will help if you have some, but it isnt necessary! Below is an outline of the topics we will cover in this workshop:
• How to tune your ukulele
• Basic chord structures
• Rhythm patterns
• Vocal harmonies and melodies
• Simple songs to wow your friends with!
Believe it or not, the series will end with YOU performing on stage with your workshop buddies!
