Press Release:
Rhythm and Vines is excited to add an outstanding selection of new artists to the bill for the 2013 festival joining international and local artists such as Rudimental, Wiz Khalifa, Empire of the Sun, and Shapeshifter amongst others.
The third and final line up includes 40 additional acts, bringing the total number of acts for the 3 day festival to over 100.
Included in the new line up is Zane Lowe who has come a long way from a bedroom in Auckland where, as a five-year-old, he first became obsessed with rock music. His career started at New Zealand’s Max TV where he interviewed everyone from The Smashing Pumpkins through to KD Lang while also fronting local hip hop group Urban Disturbance and electronic soul outfit Break’s Co-op. With a move to London he landed on his feet in the music scene. His encyclopaedic knowledge of alternative culture and interviews with bands made his show Gonzo one of the UK’s top tastemaker TV music shows. He is now known as a Radio One lynchpin, pounding out the world’s most exciting and innovative new sounds - Zane Lowe (aka Zipper) - is a successful international live DJ and remix artist in his own right.
The Veils, the half Kiwi half UK alt-rock band, will bring their exhilarating live performance to Rhythm and Vines after a sold out NZ tour earlier in the year. Hot off the release of their critically acclaimed fourth LP Time Stays, We Go – an album that took the band back on the road throughout North America, Europe and Australasia – their live performances are highly regarded the world over. The band were recently hailed as “The best and most unsettling thing seen in music this year” by The LA Times.
Mark Pritchard is a Sydney based disc jockey and electronic music producer who has released records on Warp Records and Hyberdub. A long serving electronic music innovator, his current interests are the contemporary sound of Chicago and the heritage of the UK sound system culture. He has produced across a broad spectrum with the critically acclaimed Global Communication album 76:14 included in The Guardian’s list of 1000 albums to hear before you die. This will be his first time DJing to NZ audiences.
Tiki Taane is a multi-platinum award-winning artist with a career spanning over 20 years. Rising to prominence as a member of leading NZ band Salmonella Dub, Tiki progressed from sound engineer to fully fledged front man and penned some of the bands biggest hits including “Love Your Ways” and “For The Love Of It” amongst others.
Since embarking on his solo career in 2007, Tiki has gone from strength to strength becoming one of NZ’s most popular and diverse award-winning artists renowned as much for his powerful live performances as he is for his anthems.
With their debut self-titled album Electric Wire Hustle achieved cult status. A number one song on influential blog Hype Machine, five-star reviews from the likes of Okayplayer, and BBC Radio support form Gilles Peterson and Benji B helped Electric Wire Hustle secure international support. Demand for their live show has seen Electric Wire Hustle perform in 14 countries, appearing at festivals such as Glastonbury, Dour, Sonar, Sziget, SXSW, Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide and New York’s CMJ. Rhythm and Vines welcomes them back for their second festival performance at Waiohika Estate.
Truth (Andre Fernandez and Tristan Roake) have built their reputation in NZ and abroad as both world-class producers and party-rocking DJs, cutting a clear pathway through the international dubstep scene. Nominated “Best Producer” in the 2013 Dubstepforum Awards, this duo will unleash their beautifully bass-laden beats which have been storming the US and European club and festival scene for the past two years.
