One can forgive M. Ward for taking so long to return to us, he’s a rather busy man you see. His most recent album, (his 7th) “A Wasteland Companion” was released in April last year, receiving critical acclaim worldwide. “A Wasteland Companion” forms a diary of sorts, of the singer and guitarist’s journeys home and abroad since the universally lauded “Hold Time” was released in 2009. That action-packed period included tours and full-length discs, as the “he” to Zooey Deschanel’s “she” in the Grammy nominated She & Him. With the ongoing collaboration Monsters Of Folk where Matt features beside Conor Oberst, Jim James and Mike Mogis, And as a friend and collaborator to the likes of Neko Case, Cat Power, Gillian Welch, Conor Oberst (Bright Eyes) and Jim James (My Morning Jacket).
“A Wasteland Companion”, consisting of 12 stunning tracks, was made with 18 musicians and recorded in eight different studios. Ward’s honey-soaked vocals, deft finger-picking, innate sense of melody and beguiling lyrics have already cemented his reputation as one of America’s true musical treasures and “A Wasteland Companion” features some of the finest song writing and most striking deliveries of his career.
We can’t wait to welcome him back to New Zealand in November.
