Press Release:

For Martha Davis, the most important thing in her life has always been the songs she writes and composes that she started to do at the tender age of 15. Her voice is unique, unmistakable and timeless.

Born and raised in the famed Bay Area that is Berkeley, California, Martha Davis decided to uproot and move to Los Angeles in the early ‘70’s, where she formed the first incarnation of The Motels who signed to the famed Capitol Records in 1979.

That signing lead to the release of the eponymous self titled debut The Motels that exploded in New Zealand on the strength of the massive hit ‘Total Control’ that reached Top 5 in the ARIA Charts in 1980 and in turn, was certified Gold in New Zealand.

Their sophomore effort Careful was released in 1981 that resulted in the hit s‘Danger’ and ‘Whose Problem’like the debut, was also certified Gold in New Zealand.

In 1982, The Motels released their break-through album, the well lauded All For One that spawned the smash hits ‘Only The Lonely’ and ‘Take The L (Out Of Lover)’ that both reached Top 50 status in New Zealand!

1983’s Little Robbers resulted in theTop 40 hit single ‘Suddenly Last Summer’ and 1985’s Shock album yielded the singles, ‘Shame’, ‘In The Jungle’ and ‘Icy Red’.

Following the 1987 release of her first solo effort, Policy, Martha took a sabbatical from the music scene. When asked later where she had been, Martha replied, ‘(I went) looking for my sense of humor - I seemed to have lost it somewhere around 1984. It’s not a business that one should be in without a sense of humor.’

Fast forward through three more solo albums and four Motels albums, 2013 sees Martha Davis touring New Zealand bringing with her the strongest incarnation of The Motels yet.
