Dateline Drop Single 'Do It Right' + Animated Video
Drip-feeding fans new tunes at a steady pace, Dateline have dished up 'Do It Right', the fourth single to emerge from the all-star team of Katie Everingham, Callum Devlin (Hans Pucket), Priya Sami (BUB) and Ruby Walsh's (Lips) forthcoming debut album Dumb For My Age, launching in late August via Sunreturn. Paired with an impressionistic, painterly animated video (featuring beautifully CF-esque figure work) made by Sports Team and multidisciplinary artist Eva DeMeo aka Rita Salt with support from NZ On Air, the crunchy and strutting 'Do It Right' was sparked by a sudden wave of existential reflections following a significant life change — as Heretaunga (Hastings) based lead songwriter Everingham explained...
"I wrote Do It Right after living in a new city for a while... It was kind of a ‘Who am I? What am I doing here?’ moment that kicked this song off."
I wanted the track to be moody and heavy, so it has lots of grungy distortion and open hi hats. It's fun to play live so when we were recording I wanted to capture the same energy.
I love Sports Team, everything they come up with is so creative and unique, and I remember seeing Rita Salt's art and tattoos and being totally captivated by it... When the suggestion was made to do a Sports Team / Rita Salt collab I was immediately in. I think the video captures the mood of the song perfectly. I think my favourite moment is the bit where the screen fills with bats! That would be a literal nightmare for me, so spooky."
'Dumb For My Age' is out on Friday 26th August via Sunreturn.
