Stef Animal Remixes Title Track To Dudley Benson's Album 'Zealandia'
Wellington synthesiser artist Stef Animal (of The Golden Awesome and Mestar) has remixed the title track to Dunedin avant-pop singer and producer Dudley Benson's long-awaited new album Zealandia, which is releasing in August. Stef Animal's excellently-titled debut collection Top Gear has been one of the surprise local highlights of 2018, for her re-imagining of Benson's nine minute song - a collaboration with the Dunedin Symphony Orchestra described as "in some ways the manifesto of the record" - she re-conceives the intricately arranged number as a sleek and futuristic cyber-ballad.
The remix was accompanied by a statement from Stef Animal on social media saying "I went for a Frank Ocean meets 'Labyrinth' vibe but wound up with this strange beast," she also recently performed a selection of covers of The Chills songs as part of Martin Phillipps' exhibition at Otago Museum which we're hoping to hear soon. Wrap your ears around both versions of 'Zealandia' below...
Dudley Benson's 'Zealandia' is out Friday 10th August.
