iiii Records Share Albums By The Stinging Nettles and The Slowdown
Helmed by Auckland-based saxophone visionary Jeff Henderson, experimental label iiii Records have unveiled two new collections of mind-expanding sounds, from Wellington improvised power trio The Stinging Nettles and super city mega-group The Slowdown. The Stinging Nettles' self-titled album showcases nine tracks of psychedelic exploration and rattle-yr-dags rhythmic invention. The trio is comprised of Tom Callwood (Phoenix Foundation, the Woods), Anthony Donaldson (Teeth, Melancholy Babes) and Daniel Beban (Orchestra of Spheres, Imbogodom), the latter of whom is currently engaged in an artist residency at the Audio Foundation and will be performing with the band as well as his projects OOS and UMU at this weekend's Borderline Music Festival 2018.
The Borderline Festival will see the official release of The Stinging Nettles' album alongside Gold, the debut collection from The Slowdown, a big band headed by Henderson. The Slowdown recently performed an epic four hour set at Auckland's Whammy Backroom with a rotating lineup of guests including Parks, boNehEad, Tom Rodwell, JY Lee, Sean Martin-Buss, Thebis Mutante and Liz Maw. Those live recordings have been trimmed down to a scant three hours for your listening pleasure, open your ears to both albums below...
