Golden Dawn Tavern Announces Closure + Celebrations
In sad news, pivotal supporters of Auckland live music culture the Golden Dawn Tavern Of Power has announced it will be closing it's doors this coming March. An outpost of quality live music, arts events, consistently excellent DJs and so much more, the Ponsonby venue's fearless approach to event programming will be sorely missed. Golden Dawn organisers are already promising exciting things to come, hinting at what's sure to be a winning run of closing shows over the next six months. A who's-who of New Zealand musical talent has graced its tiny but well-decorated stage over the last seven years and lots of fun could be had between bands celeb-spotting in the crowd - famous attendees have included Lorde and Jacinda Arden.
Golden Dawn Tavern Of Power entertainment manager Matthew Crawley (The Conjurers) had this to say about the self-proclaimed pop-up venue's closure:
Dear friends, I'm a bit stunned that I'm actually putting this out there for real this time, but after the best seven years I've ever had, running this little Tavern of Power with one of my best friends in the world, we're gonna call it a day at the end of March 2018. The little pop up bar that never popped is gonna go out with a bang.
By the time we close we will have hosted literally thousands of bands, DJs, and little darlings, and my dumb heart breaks to think of pulling the rug from under y'all. But you know, sometimes you have to listen to your heart, as cheesy as that is. Nothing sinister, it's just time.
You know this won't really be the end. I can't wait to tell you all what we've got planned for the next six months. Oof. I'm already tired just thinking about it.
See you on the dancefloor. xox
