Disasteradio Announces First Album In Seven Years + Shares 'Oh Yeah'
Wellington's Luke Rowell aka Disasteradio has announced the impending arrival of new album Sweatshop, and as a first taste he has served up the aptly-titled lead single 'Oh Yeah'. Rowell has been no slouch over the last seven years, having released an EP and three albums under his alter-ego Eyeliner, but Sweatshop will be his first full-length offering as Disasteradio since 2010's Charisma. Speaking to the album's creation, Rowell said in a statement:
"In terms of an album, the music kinda traces this arc of me going from a new wave to a bit more symphonic kinda Electric Light Orchestra territory. I got into the ELO record 'TIME' (1981) after 'Charisma 'and that sort of thing (lately Tom Petty / Thin Lizzy type vibes) is showing through on a few songs."
"I spent five years writing the songs in my bedroom/studio and finished them in a garage studio... process-wise is kinda an exploration in the idea of living in your work."
"I was working on this all through making the first three Eyeliner albums so there has been a bit of technical and conceptual cross-pollination between those two projects. Disasteradio has inherited a bit more complex harmony from Eyeliner, really funny to watch that kinda happen on its own."
Speaking to the writing of lead single 'Oh Yeah' he added...
"'Oh Yeah' is a song that is inspired by this cool feeling I got while I was trying to forgive myself for being an idiot (in general) outdoors during a gale... like the amazing way nature can resonate right along with you, like - in a very visceral sense. Anyway: cool feeling."
The new record is slated for release on all streaming and downloading platforms in August. In the meantime sink your teeth into 'Oh Yeah' below...
Disasteradio will be celebrating the release of 'Oh Yeah' with a party on 15th July at Caroline in Wellington. Head over here for more details.
