Live Photos: Cough + Windhand At Kings Arms Shut Down By Police

Monday 3rd April, 2017 10:05AM

After slaying at their Wellington show on Friday night, Richmond's Cough and their hometown pals Windhand made it up to Auckland to play a show at the Kings Arms Tavern on Saturday evening. Opened by local acts Greenfog and Bloodnut, the show was in full swing, with Cough delivering their sludgy soundscapes to a captivated audience, before Windhand took the stage and things went badly pear-shaped due to an anonymous neighbour who called noise control.

The five-piece managed to perform about half of their intended seven-song set before an unreasonable number of police officers came in to aid noise control officers in the seizure of sound equipment (a mixing console and a monitor), resulting in an anti-climatic ending for doom fans who had come out to see the two American acts.

Kings Arms Tavern management Maureen Gordon, told Stuff that she is seeking an urgent meeting with Auckland Council today over noise parameters, adding that calling in police was "over-the-top" and "intimidating". The historic bar, which was sold for $7.4 million to developers late last year, is likely to only remain open as a venue until 2018.

Photographer Dave Simpson was at Saturday night's show and managed to capture all the action, right up until close down. Check out his photos below and head over here to read a review courtesy of Ambient Light...
