PRESS RELEASE:
SETH FRIGHTENING VINYL RELEASE NATIONAL TOUR
But We Love Our Brothers and Sisters
‘Avant-bard’ Seth Frightening sings damaged folk songs bearing the dried blood of the macabre. He weaves stories of clouded characters that reads simultaneously like a diary account and a news report of a car crash. He is the regretful drunk; the infant victim; the curious rubbernecker.
Five years has seen Seth Frightening release a consistent stream of albums, culminating in 2015’s ‘But We Love Our Brothers And Sisters’. In his words, "...it is a deathly ode to the failings of love, the reality of being nothing and alone, forever dead in space." Released digitally on Frightening’s own Wellington-based label, Sonorous Circle, the album bears his signature knack for wrenching, off-kilter melody, deft textural experimentation and intimate, self-defining production.
A new video for the song ‘Bury’ shows the eerie intensity of Frightening’s gut-turning live performances, for which he is now well known - having played alongside Jonsi, Grizzly Bear, Low, Jessica Pratt, Neutral Milk Hotel, Deerhoof, All Seeing Hand, Kirin J Callinan and more.
Seth Frightening is heading on tour around New Zealand to share his new album, freshly pressed on 12” bone-coloured vinyl. He’s joined by the solo rendition of i.e. crazy (Claire Duncan; Dear Time’s Waste) for the duration of the shows, and special guests. Footage of the pair was captured in this year’s music documentary Land of the Long White Stain, written and directed by Claire.
Visit Seth Frightening’s Bandcamp where you can pre-order ‘But We Love Our Brothers and Sisters’ on vinyl, and receive an immediate download. Orders will be shipped in mid November, or you can opt to pick up your vinyl at one of the upcoming shows.
