Andy Sugg returns for his third tour of New Zealand—and his first time on the road since the pandemic started...Andy’s musical connection with New Zealand has grown strong in recent years, his last tour featured his three tenor sax band, TTTenor.
For this concert at the Audio Foundation the Andy Sugg Group plays music from his avant-garde albums—one recorded in Berlin and the other in New York. Andy has a deep connection with the jazz avant garde, and has been one of very few Australian improvisers to see that style develop an “Australasian accent.” The openness and exploratory nature of this style is timeless. It continues to reinvent and reinvigorate itself as it fuses with new influences.
Andy’s stellar group features Kevin Field on piano, Mostyn Cole on bass, Mark Lockett on drums and Joe Kaptein on keyboard. The music is contemporary avant-garde fusion at its best.
The critics say – “brilliant, strongly surging, high-order music, consummate playing ...”
