Ijebu Pleasure Club hit the Portland Public House again.
Get your afrobeat groove on, up close and personal with the band. You know it will be a good time.
IJEBU PLEASURE CLUB
Ijebu Pleasure Club takes you to Nigeria in 1986, where a small town Afrobeat band have just been told they need to play American top 40 hits to keep their nightclub gig. They don’t own any of the records, but they’re going to give it a try.
Mashing up the music you remember (and some that’s best forgotten) with the Nigerian funk style of Fela Kuti, the 11 piece band will surprise and delight. But mostly, get you shaking it.
Ijebu Pleasure Club will show you that all pop music comes from mother-Africa.
THE BAND
Introducing singer Nuel Nonso Nwachukwu from Nigeria, Ijebu Pleasure Club pulls together 10 experienced but hungry funk, soul, and jazz musicians, who have collectively played, toured and recorded with the likes of Homebrew, Katchafire, The Hot Grits, Solaa, Kolab, dDub, and the Ngaruawahia High School Big Band. Yep, THE Ngaruawahia High School Big Band.
With a huge 5-piece horn section, and tight grooving rhythms, the ensemble packs a punch. Ijebu Pleasure Club are equally at home on large outdoor stages, and tiny clubs with packed dance-floors.
