DOPRAH AND YUMI ZOUMA ANNOUNCE NEW ZEALAND TOUR
This May marks the stuff dream-pop is made of - when enigmatic trip-pop group Doprah, fresh from the release of their highly-anticipated debut album Wasting in March, hit the road this May with highly lauded dream-pop outfit Yumi Zouma for four epic dates around the country.
Yumi Zouma are no strangers to the stage - despite the band’s members living disparately Auckland, Paris and New York. Their evolution has been brisk and organic a shoreline reflecting the changing tides of its ocean. The band sold out their first EP twice over before its release and before having ever played live. The intense reception to these early tracks resulted in the group’s first practices taking place on arena stages, as they were asked on tour by both Chet Faker and Lorde. Pitchfork hailed ‘The Brae’ as “an effortless cascade of echoing riffs and enchanting harmonies converging into a mirage of dream pop purity”. 2015 saw the launch of their EP II, alongside multiple tours of Europe, North America, Australia and Asia, before a deluxe EP Collection 12” was released at the end of the year. These dizzying days on the road finally enabled the band to write together in the same place at the same time, and during a three‐week pause in Paris, they set to work on their debut album, due for release late in May. Yumi Zouma’s effortless waves of harmony have been redefined and the creative process laid bare to expose an act more unguarded and interconnected than ever before. Yumi Zouma have shared bills with Autre Ne Veut, Braids, How to Dress Well, Jamie xx, Lower Dens, Leon Bridges, Lorde, SOPHIE, Tei Shi and TOPS, among others.
Following the success of their breakout self-titled EP and a series of captivating videos, Doprah bloomed in the online music climate around the globe, punctuating the blogosphere, dipping their toes in Australian waters and playing New Yorks CMJ Festival. “All hail the arrival of another odd-pop export from New Zealand,” waxed Spin magazine. Doprah’s Wasting is dark, undulating and electric piece of work. Sounds throb, crack, glisten and weave across a genre-melting sonic landscape. As said by Brooklyn Vegan, Doprah get a lot of (accurate) comparisons to Bjork and Massive Attack.... if the lush, alluring world that conjures interests you, the bands upcoming debut LP, Wasting, deserves a place in your collection next to them.
Yumi Zouma and Doprah are two young acts are working at the top of their game - and to see them both on the same bill is nothing short of bliss. You won’t forget it.
