LIKE MINDS
A Concert For Mental Health Awareness
The Like Minds concert is a fundraising event for the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand, scheduled for Saturday 12th October at Bodega in Wellington. The key objectives are to raise funds to support the outstanding work that the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand does and increase awareness and lessen stigma around mental health issues, especially within the arts community.
The event will showcase multiple performers over the course of approximately six hours. The artists will be performing re-worked and stripped back versions of their well-known songs.
The line-up includes:
• Samuel Scott & Luke Buda (The Phoenix Foundation)
• Aaron Tokona (Cairo Knife Fight / AhoriBuzz)
• Barnaby Weir (The Black Seeds / Fly My Pretties)
• Adam Ladley & Holly Beals (Family Cactus)
• Matthew Armitage
• Bikini Roulette
• What Noisy Cats
All the artists and crew involved will be giving their time and talents for free, meaning all ticket sales (minus promotion and production costs) will be going directly to the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand.
“Almost everyone has been touched by mental illness at some point in their lives, whether it be through personal experience, or seeing family and friends struggle. Like Minds is about reducing the stigma around mental illness, getting people to talk about the issues, and raising funds for all the great work that the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand do in the community.”
- Oliver Labone, Event Director
"I am very pleased to be part of the Like Minds concert for a number of reasons. First, I get to make music with my friends, which is always a bonus. Secondly, we are doing it to raise funds for the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand. But most importantly, it give the music community a chance to get people talking about mental health issues, normalising them, and hopefully making it a bit easier for people to talk about things with their families and in their communities. Obviously we have had some high profile sports people working in this area, so it seems appropriate that the music world should get involved too. We certainly have our fair share of unique individuals!"
- Samuel Scott
“Im most stoked to be a part of the line up for Like Minds to raise some money for the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand!! Its going to be rad!! There’s a lot of misunderstanding out there when it comes to mental health issues and its not really talked about a lot, theres a huge stigma surrounding it. The least we can do is try to understand our fellow humans that have a different perspective or chemical make-up. Let’s get together and do this over some music!!”
- Barnaby Weir
“Yes indeed, I support this kaupapa!”
- Aaron Tokona
